Scene: The Caribbean Carnival’s Big Parade

WHERE: Exhibition Place

WHEN: Saturday, August 5

WHAT: The Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival (how long will it be before we can stop saying “formerly known as Caribana”?) held its big parade on Saturday, and thousands of participants showed up in appropriate attire. Increased security at this year’s event seemed not to put a damper on things, as people in brightly coloured feathered costumes walked alongside elaborate floats, some of which pumped loud dance music into the air. The parade was the climax of three weeks of Caribbean Carnival celebrations. The whole thing wraps up this Sunday, with a church service.
