Extra, Extra: Concerts, Pianos, and Taxis in Unusual Places

Every weekday’s end, Extra, Extra collects just about everything you ought to care about or ought not miss.

DD/MM/YYYY perform at last year's ALL CAPS! festival.

  • The ALL CAPS! festival aims to bring music fans to the Toronto Island, for a more relaxed setting in which to enjoy some jams. This year’s fest is in just over a month, over the August 11–12 weekend, and the line-up has just been released.
  • The Pan-Am Games are still three years away, but organizers are trying to build momentum and enthusiasm early. Though nobody seems quite sure why, this month’s effort involves pianos—41 of them, to be exact, one for each participating country. The pianos have been painted to reflect the nations they each represent, and have been scattered in public spaces across the city. Playing them is encouraged.
  • In need of a taxi? Now there’s an app for that.
