Urban Planner: June 7, 2012

In today's Urban Planner: an exhibition takes a look at the world of medicinal marijuana; a fundraiser aims to support the victim of a false accusation; and a bunch of bands close out the night at Parts & Labour.

Catch Triple Gangers tonight, along with a variety of other bands. Photo by Emma Holland.

ART: It’s not easy being green. While Kermit’s immortal words may have been referring to the perils of being a frog, he could just as easily have been referring to the difficulties of using marijuana for medicinal purposes. If you’ve ever wanted to get into the secret world of medicinal cannabis, don’t miss this exhibition, called “It’s Medicinal,” which takes a look at the people and places that make up the industry. Pari Nadimi Gallery (254 Niagara Street), opening reception, 6 p.m.–9 p.m., FREE.

FUNDRAISER: For Lizz Aston, who says she was wrongly accused of assault after being incorrectly identified by police on the basis of a Facebook photo, technology is a mixed blessing, at best. A fundraiser, “Falsely Accused via Facebook” hopes to help cover Aston’s legal fees. The event features three local bands, and it will be hosted by DJ Jordan Kern. The Piston (937 Bloor Street), 9 p.m.–2 a.m., PWYC ($7 suggested donation).

MUSIC: While Toronto eagerly awaits the return of NXNE next week, don’t miss this show featuring no less than four Toronto bands. Parts & Labour presents Light Fires (Regina, a.k.a. Gentlemen Reg), Triple Gangers, Farragoes, and Moves. It’s a lineup that will surely inspire you to kick off your summer music season the right way. Parts & Labour (1566 Queen Street West), 10 p.m., $6.
