What would Toronto's subway map look like if koopa troopas prowled the city's streets? Wonder no more.
The TTC subway map above (click for a zoomed-in view) is the work of Dave Delisle, a Vancouver-based self-described geek. As anyone born in the 1980s or early 1990s probably already knows, the art style is a nod to the world map in Nintendo’s Super Mario Brothers 3.
Delisle first posted the image on his personal website, which is a sort of repository of his ideas for geeky products. He has done similar maps of Calgary’s C-Train and Vancouver’s Skytrain. “It just struck me that Mario 3 has so many elements that would translate well to a transit map,” he wrote us, in an email. “Mario was fixed to this set path that looked like a rail, each level looked like a station stop. The rest was gravy!”
Gravy, indeed. He’s selling posters.
