TRCA Executive Votes Against Selling Public Land to Mayor Rob Ford

The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority’s executive committee has just voted nine to one against selling Mayor Rob Ford a plot of public land adjacent to his Etobicoke home, according to reporters tweeting from today’s meeting. This is the latest development in the very same land-purchase attempt that Star reporter Daniel Dale was investigating earlier this month when he was physically confronted by the mayor. The mayor has said he needs the land—a small TRCA-owned parcel beside his house, with some mature trees on it—in order to build a new security fence. Ford’s unusual request will still need to go before the full TRCA board for final consideration, but today’s vote means the odds he will prevail aren’t good.
