Duly Quoted: Ian McPhail, Interim Chair of the Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP
“While we found that on balance it was well done, we certainly found that there was room for improvement.”
—McPhail’s summary, in conversation with the Star, of his commission’s new report on the RCMP’s performance during Toronto’s G20 conference. The report concludes that while Mounties did participate in some of the controversial policing tactics that have become infamous in the aftermath of the event (like kettling), they were following the Toronto Police Service’s lead. The commission recommends better coordination and record-keeping in the future, but has otherwise exonerated the RCMP.
