Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but that doesn't mean you should dismiss lunch or dinner as inferior. They might develop a complex. Don't forget that. Today: why single mothers should support the proposed Toronto casino; Pride sends Mayor Rob Ford his official invite; the mayor gives out the wrong number (again); and a traffic stop that went terribly wrong.

Great news, single moms! City Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti (Ward 7, York West) has a career path all mapped out for you: card dealer! That’s right, if you play your cards right (see what we did there?) you may land yourself a shiny new casino job. Perfect for the single lady trying to balance it all. If Toronto gets the casino that Mammoliti so badly desires, it will be in your best interest. You should really support this. Other people who might benefit? Celine Dion fans. Because if we build it, she will come (or so the Fords suggest).

Will this be the year that Mayor Rob Ford participates in Pride? We may know his plan sooner rather than later, as the organization has sent the mayor his official invitation to take part, which he should receive today or tomorrow. The parade will once again take place on the Canada Day long weekend. Ford skipped it last year in order to spend time with his family at the cottage; however, he did participate in the Beaches Easter Parade over the recent Easter long weekend, so perhaps he’s getting into this whole the-mayor-should-attend-citywide-celebrations-even-on-a-long-weekend-because-it’s-the-mayor’s-job thing.

Oops, he did it again. Just three weeks after violating the council code of conduct by urging residents who support his transit vision to call the taxpayer-funded phone number of the mayor’s office to find out how to run in the next election, Mayor Ford once again gave out the office’s phone number on his Sunday radio show. This time he told young people to call to find out how to sign up for his summer football program. It’s not that he doesn’t know better: last time, he acknowledged the mistake and apologized. If history is a guide, then, this does not bode well for Ford’s presence at Pride. A one-time only blunder may just be out of the question.

A Toronto police officer is in stable condition and recovering in Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre after being stabbed in the neck during what started as a routine traffic stop. This incident took place in the Bathurst and Wilson area and also resulted in a shooting that has landed another man in the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Little is known about the incident, as the SIU is investigating, but witnesses say they heard multiple shots fired.
