Urban Planner: February 9, 2012
In today's Urban Planner: spend your lunch break at a free concert with the New Orford String Quartet; Matthew Varey's newest art exhibition called "Home" has its opening reception; a cabaret show brings all varieties of entertainment to the Drake; and a dating auction offers possible romance and support for a great cause.

ART: Hamilton-born artist Matthew Varey takes on abstract paintings of bunkers in his latest exhibition, Home. He travelled Europe visiting real bunkers to get a feel for the material. Telephone Booth Gallery (3148 Dundas Street West), 6 p.m.–9 p.m. (opening reception), FREE.
CABARET: If you’re in the mood for a cabaret/variety show of sorts, check out Rag Bag Cabaret, which makes its return to the Drake tonight. The show features comedy, music, rap, burlesque (including some members of Les Coquettes), and dance all crammed into an evening that will certainly give you some bang for your buck. Drake Hotel (1150 Queen Street West), 7:30 p.m., $15.
LOVE AUCTION: If you don’t have a date for Valentine’s Day and want to donate to a great cause, The Heart and Stroke Foundation is holding a love auction to help you out. Each date comes with a “date package” (we’ll assume they’re referring to dinner here) so if you manage to place the highest bid, you’ll be good to go! The night will also feature a performance by indie band Tina Danza. All proceeds go to The Heart and Stroke Foundation. The Hideout Toronto (484 Queen Street West), 7:30 p.m.-1:30 a.m., $5.
The Heart and Stroke Foundation’s love auction is not free to attend, but $5 at the door. Go get your bid on.
