The mayor and his city-councillor brother will be getting their own show on NEWSTALK 1010. Effective this coming weekend, they’ll be taking over the time slot currently occupied by Josh Matlow, a centrist councillor, who hosts a talk show called The City, every Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Doug Ford was an occasional caller to Matlow’s show, and he’s never been microphone shy (even if sometimes it would be in his interest to be), so the notion of him having free rein on some AM radio station isn’t so shocking.
But Rob Ford, though he was once a regular on AM640’s John Oakley show, has been considerably more bashful around the press since becoming mayor. As Toronto’s top elected official, he pays a very steep political price for his gaffes—moreso than he did when he was a councillor. The fact that he’ll apparently be talking for two straight hours, live to air on a weekly basis, is surprising.
