Extra, Extra: Rob Ford Painting, Book City Bloor West Closing, and Where Should Bixi Grow?

Every weekday’s end, Extra, Extra collects just about everything you ought to care about or ought not miss.

You—yes you!—could be the lucky owner of this fine piece of portraiture.

  • It was just a matter of time, really. With all the attention and all the commotion Rob Ford attracts, it was inevitable that someone would soon recognize that our mayor was a character just waiting to be committed to memory in what appears to be some postage stamp–inspired portraiture. You can bid on the piece here. [via @GraphicMatt]
  • A Toronto politician feeling slightly less love than our art-inspiring mayor: Councillor Cesar Palacio (Ward 17, Davenport). At least one of the councillor’s constituents is disgruntled enough to have taken out a Craigslist ad calling on potential candidates to run against Palacio in the next election. Or, as put in the ad: “We are currently looking for a candidate to fill a vacancy that has existed in Ward 17 Davenport since December 1, 2003.” (Screen-capped version, in case the listing is taken down.)
  • Do you want more Bixi in Toronto? The Toronto Cyclists Union does, and they’ve set up a website to garner suggestions for potential new bike stations. No official word on whether Bixi is contemplating expansion soon, but the more they know we’re interested, the likelier they are to try.
  • Sad news for yet another independent bookshop in Toronto: the Bloor West location of Book City will close next month.
