City and CUPE 416 reach Settlement; Ratification Vote Scheduled for Monday

The City of Toronto and Toronto Civic Employees’ Union Local 416 (CUPE), which represents the City’s 6,000 outside workers and paramedics, signed a Memorandum of Settlement today at 3:15 p.m. confirming the terms of the tentative agreement announced by the parties on February 5.
The next step in the process to finalize the agreement is ratification by Local 416 membership and approval by City Council. The union has set a date of February 13 for its ratification vote. Following union ratification, City Council will meet in a special session to consider the agreement.
The details of the agreement will not be made public until and unless both sides approve the deal, but it is widely expected to included concessions from the union with regards to job security provisions, which were the City’s major target in negotiations. Negotiations with 23,000 inside workers and library staff are ongoing.
