Woman Trapped Under Streetcar Briefly, Now Freed

A woman was trapped briefly under a streetcar a few minutes ago, on St. Clair just west of Yonge Street. Firefighters arrived on scene and managed to extricate the woman in a few minutes. EMS confirmed to CP24 that the woman is 19 years old, and that she is currently en route to the trauma centre at St. Michael’s. Her injuries are serious, but no word yet on whether they are life-threatening. St. Clair is closed between Yonge Street and Deer Park Crescent and streetcars are turning back at St. Clair West, with shuttle buses running on the eastern portion of the route.

UPDATE, 2:05 PM CP24 is reporting that the accident took place when the victim ran across the streetcar tracks in the middle of the block. Early word from the hospital is that she is in “serious by stable” condition.
