In today's UP: fighting the Gravy Lane on Jarvis; honouring the best blues musicians in Canada with awards and a concert; and remembering one of the most influential shows of the '90s.

A scene from Freaks and Geeks. “It’s hard to find matches for you guys—no one in Canada looks like you.” (Except for maybe Seth Rogen.)

CYCLING: The Toronto Cyclist’s Union is continuing to rally folks to save the Jarvis bike lanes, whose proposed removal has become symbolic of the Ford administration’s disregard for cycling more broadly. With new estimates of their removal coming in over a quarter of a million dollars, the proposed fifth lane for cars has had the term “Gravy Lane” ladled all over it. The TCU is holding a planning meeting tonight for anyone interested in helping to keep the markings on Jarvis’ pavement just the way they are right now. Jarvis Collegiate (495 Jarvis Street), Room 202, 7 p.m., FREE.

MUSIC: Tonight’s the 15th annual Maple Blues Awards, founded by the Toronto Blues Society to recognize the best blues performers in Canada. Among the featured performers (and nominees) are Rita Chiarelli, Fathead, and MonkeyJunk (we’ll totally admit to including those last two for their names as much as their blues prowess.) Koerner Hall (273 Bloor Street West), 7 p.m., $28–61.50.

GEEKERY: The folks behind Geek Love have feted all sorts of cult favourites in their past events, but tonight’s subject matches up with their name perfectly—and features some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, back when they were TV unknowns. Judd Apatow’s short lived but cherished high school comedy Freaks & Geeks launched the careers of James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jason Segel, and many more (and featured cameos from future names like Jason Schwartzman and Shia Lebeouf.) This month’s curator, Rachel Lissner, has picked three classic episodes to screen; all three feature SCTV alum Joe Flaherty, the biggest star on the series at the time. The Ossington (61 Ossington Avenue), doors at 7:30, show at 8, FREE.
