- Toronto company MOD Developments has purchased one of the properties that borders Massey Hall (the historic CIBC building) and is trying to be a good neighbour: today they announced they’d be donating a 4,804 square foot portion of that land to Massey, which hopes to use the extra breathing room for expanded patron facilities (read: nicer washrooms and bars).
- Vacating its newly acquired home: Occupy Toronto. A small group of protesters set up camp near City Hall during the budget debate last week. They are facing an eviction order, and despite earlier plans to the contrary the group has now decided not to fight that order.
- Toronto’s indie food culture—trucks and festivals and underground markets—is growing, and to get a better sense of where the greatest potential lies the Street Food Vendors Association conducted a survey of visitors at some of those events last year. Key findings: a majority want a larger variety of street food, with more trucks and locations. Only 2 to 3 per cent are concerned about cleanliness or food safety—the major reason the City has been imposing very strict regulations on street food vendors.
- The Toronto Comic Arts Festival has started unveiling the list of participants it has lined up for this year’s event. Among them: Bryan Lee O’Malley, Jennifer Holm, and Michel Rabagliati.
