Extra, Extra: Dining with Captain John, Shooting the Stars
Every weekday’s end, Extra, Extra collects just about everything you ought to care about or ought not miss.

- Most of us are familiar with the outside of Captain John’s, which has been docked at the foot of Yonge Street for longer than many of us can remember, but few are those who’ve actually ventured inside. If you count yourself among the curious—but maybe not curious enough to actually venture there yourself—the Grid has you covered: they spent New Year’s Eve on board.
- Two other venerable Toronto institutions—independent bookstores, specifically—aren’t faring as well: Glad Day Bookshop is up for sale, and The Book Mark will be shutting its doors after 46 years.
- In happier news: Torontoist photographer Michael Chrisman did a very cool (and patient!) thing when he mounted a pinhole camera in the Port Lands and left it alone for a whole entire year. The result is a dreamy portrait of Toronto—a 365-day-long exposure that graced the cover of the Toronto Star earlier this week and now, happily, is available for purchase in a limited edition print.
