Vandalist: Bleeding Heart

New sympathetic stencils are popping up around town.

FIELD NOTES: Over-sympathetic liberal, Jesus on the cross, or a literal bleeding heart: this piece’s name alone can be interpreted in numerous ways. Add a human skull with antlers and you have a mysterious piece of art. But because, try as we might, we can’t get away from Christmas, we’re going with the Jesus interpretation. Did you know that the term “bleeding heart” is a Jesus reference? It’s based on the bleeding heart under the cross, representing the sufferings of Jesus crucified. (Thanks, Wikipedia!) Since this piece has gone up during the holiday season, we’re guessing it’s someone’s way of saying, “Happy birthday, buddy, my gift to you is this antler skull.” (What else do you get for the guy who has everything?) Or maybe it is meant to literally reference a bleeding heart. Which is a little less festive. Either way, enjoy your holiday time, no matter how you choose to spend it!
