In today's Urban Planner: attend a benefit concert featuring Fucked Up, watch acrobats fly through the sky as Cirque du Soleil rolls into town, and stop by Grand Canyon's CD-release party at the Drake.
FUNDRAISER: Tonight and tomorrow night you can raise money for two good causes while listening to Fucked Up play its latest album, David Comes to Life, which SPIN magazine recently named its album of the year. The event—which raises funds for COUNTERfit’s drug users memorial project and the Barriere Lake Legal Defense Fund—will also feature the Sadies, PS I Love You, and Quest for Fire. The Great Hall (1087 Queen Street West), 7 p.m., $20.
CIRCUS: Cirque Du Soleil is coming to town over the holidays for a 10-day run at Ricoh Coliseum. Quidam features 52 acrobats, musicians, singers, and characters and tells the story of young Zoé, who embarks on an adventure in an imaginary world. Ricoh Coliseum (100 Princes’ Boulevard), 7:30 p.m., $40–$100.
MUSIC: Country and roots duo Grand Canyon have released a brand new limited-edition EP and are celebrating tonight at the Drake. The group—comprising former solo artists Chris Seldon and Courtney Farquhar—have developed quite the following since joining forces in 2010 and played NXNE for the first time together in 2011. The Drake Underground (1150 Queen Street West), 8 p.m., $10–$20.
