- One of Toronto’s most iconic theatres has a new name: the Canon Theatre (previously the Pantages) has been renamed after theatre impresario Ed Mirvish. The announcement was made this morning, and son David Mirvish explained to the Star that it was only now the renaming was possible—though Honest Ed died in 2007, the naming sponsorship contract with Canon reached the end of its term just recently.
- Toronto cycling magazine dandyhorse has some fun gear to give away. To mark the holiday season: 12 days of Christmas readers’ survey. Anyone who fills out the survey will be eligible to win one of 12 bike-themed gift packs; one winner a day will be selected from December 13–25.
- Post City has just published its annual round-up of the most inspiring, active, engaged, or just plain omnipresent young people in Toronto. Among this year’s Gen Y achievers: Drake, Globe and Mail journalist Patrick White, and street artist Deadboy (he of the Rob Ford Humpty Dumpty stencil).
