Extra, Extra: Retrontario’s New Tracks, Tim Hortons’ New Brews, Bayview’s Time to Shine

  • Retrontario‘s YouTube channel has been sharing great vintage Ontario videos since 2008, but now, for their third anniversary, they’re branching out to a new medium: audio tracks, using Soundcloud. Listen to “The Day Out Mix,” described on its Soundcloud page as a “mixtape of sun-stained Ontario floor fillers with the odd vocal sample thrown in for good measure,” and “The Night In Mix,” a “dirtier, raw funk side of the Retrontario experience,” above.
  • Breaking the “stick to what you’re good at” rule, Tim Hortons has decided to start selling espresso and espresso-based drinks. Toronto Life asked Stuart Ross, expert barista and owner of Church Street’s Bulldog Coffee, to taste test the new beverages. Given that they’re created by pressing a button, the results were pretty much what you’d expect.
  • If you’ve yet to visit Bayview Station, you should, if only to see Toronto artist Panya Clark Espinal’s installation From Here Right Now. It earned the station a nod in a roundup of the world’s 15 most beautiful subway stations, which includes photos, of course. [via @shot7news]
