- Giant pumpkins aren’t just for Cinderella—when they’re really big enough to house a human, they are just generally kind of mesmerizing. The above giant pumpkins, and other prize-winning veggies, are at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, on through Sunday. Also: alpacas! You can pet them.
- Pedestrians and drivers alike, keep an extra careful eye out this week. An analysis of police statistics conducted by Global News reinforces something we’ve long known: pedestrian injuries spike in the week after daylight savings time ends.
- Also in walking news: former Pedestrian Committee chair Dylan Reid checked out a recent open house showcasing the new streetscape designs for Front Street, which will undergo some changes as Union Station is renovated. The verdict: good for walkers, less so for cyclists.
- Last night we discovered a mind-alteringly weird video all about Rob Ford. Today, Xtra caught up with the creator of this remarkable bit of cinema, Jude Klassen (aka Tasha), and chatted about the video’s origins.
- Kevin Drew is staging some kind of sit-in on Twitter. Or something. The co-founder of Broken Social Scene—which is playing its last show tonight—seems to be taking the band’s demise to heart, and he’s expressing the depths of his feelings by seemingly retweeting every single thing people tweet at him in thanks for BSS’s many illustrious years. (For instance, between 3:00 and 3:18 p.m.—after which we stopped counting—there was a total of 58 retweets.) On the upside, this may make the parting a little less bitter for at least some of his followers.
