Extra, Extra: Food Truck Fest, Gerald Hannon Party, City Squirrel Scamper

Every weekday’s end, Extra, Extra collects just about everything you ought to care about or ought not miss.

  • Announced earlier today: a mini food truck pop-up festival, coming tomorrow to Yonge and Gould. Trucks will be on-site from 11 a.m.–2 p.m., and organizers are suggesting people dress warmly in case they find themselves—as in previous editions of the festival—waiting in long lines. BlogTO is reporting that tomorrow’s event is a test of sorts, and if it goes well the food trucks may return to that corner on a semi-regular basis.
  • Gerald Hannon, longtime writer and also longtime sex worker, is retiring from the latter, and celebrating with a party. The Grid chatted with him about his work and the insights he gained along the way.
  • CUPE locals 416 and 79 will see their contracts expire at the end of this year, and the City of Toronto is currently ramping up its negotiation efforts. Or so, at least, they have been vehemently claiming. According to NOW though, labour leaders were “warned months ago by sympathetic higher-ups in the bureaucracy that ‘nothing city unions could say or do,’…would prevent a lockout.”
  • Earlier today we sadly reported on the demise of @City_Raccoon, Toronto’s masked, furry friend on Twitter. A successor has already emerged with a new bid for attention, however: meet City Squirrel, now dashing up a tree near you.
