Extra, Extra: Bike Theft Survey and One Raccoon We Could Learn to Love

Every weekday’s end, we collect just about everything you ought to care about or ought not miss.

Behold the adventures of {a href="http://twitter.com/#!/City_Raccoon"}City Raccoon{/a}.

  • It’s been a while since Toronto had a good fake Twitter account, and even longer since we had one that wasn’t focused on the shenanigans of City Hall. Fortunately, our dry spell has ended with City Raccoon, a rodent who is going a long way to combat the sometimes poor image the furry little bandits are often saddled with.
  • The Toronto Cyclists Union wants to learn more about bike theft in Toronto, and to that end they’ve launched an online survey to help compile some data on the subject. The survey is timed to coordinate with a new theft awareness campaign the bike union also has in the works this fall.
  • Rick Perry wants the Republican presidential nomination, and in order to get it he’s going to need to convince members of his party that he possesses the judgment and insight to handle world events and nuclear launch codes without disaster. Foiling that mission just a bit: using quotes from a satire about Occupy Toronto (clearly labelled “satire,” you might notice) as fodder for a speech condemning the worldwide protest. Perry read fake quotes from the satirical article, which appeared in the Globe and Mail 10 days ago, at an event in front of supporters in New Hampshire, clearly convinced it showed up the Occupiers as lazy bums. Only 10 more months to the nominating convention, Rick!
