Extra, Extra: Biblical Broadcast, Bigger Bixi
Every weekday’s end, Extra, Extra collects just about everything you ought to care about or ought not miss.
- “Two by two they came!” Albert Schultz, founding artistic director of Soulpepper, told us so just a few minutes ago. He was reading the story of Noah, as part of a 76-hour-long webcast reading of the King James Bible. And why a continuous cover-to-cover reading? It’s part of the Word Festival, which is marking the 400th anniversary of the publication of that canonical tome (and also Shakespeare). Reading is expected to wrap up sometime at approximately 7 p.m. Sunday.
- A different kind of icon: the maple leaf on top of Maple Leaf Gardens was dismantled yesterday, as part of the renovations that are preparing the arena for its new life as a retail centre and host of Ryerson athletic facilities.
- Bixi Toronto is growing—not in number, but in geographic scope. The bike-share service has to relocate some stations for the winter to accommodate snow removal, and decided to move a few others that were underused. A total of 17 stations are being moved over the course of the next week, and the Grid has a handy map of the new locations.
- And speaking of riding bikes: the next time you’re on one and an angry driver tells them to get out of their way until you start paying your fair share of road maintenance costs, tell them to read this.
