Duly Quoted: TDSB Trustee Sheila Ward

“If 50 years from now we still have black-centric schools, we will have failed abysmally, but for a period of time I’m willing to listen to people saying, ‘We need your help.’”

—TDSB Trustee Sheila Ward (Toronto Centre-Rosedale), responding to the Board’s decision, last night, to approve the creation of an Africentric high school in Toronto. When opened in 2012 or 2013 it will be the city’s second Africentric school—the first was an elementary school that opened in 2009. No location has yet been selected for the new school, which was approved by a vote of 14–6.
