TTC Approves Random Drug and Alcohol Testing for Employees
The Toronto Transit Commission has decided to start randomly testing employees for drug and alcohol use, reports 680 News. It is the first employer of transit workers to do so in Canada. The change will be applied to the TTC’s fitness for duty policy and will affect drivers, collectors, some supervisors and mechanics, senior executives, and city councillors who serve on the commission, according to the Sun. The decision follows a bus crash on Lawrence Avenue on August 30 that killed a woman, Jadranka Petrova, and injured a dozen others; the TTC driver involved in that incident was charged a week ago with criminal negligence causing death, as well as marijuana possession. Petrova’s family is suing the TTC.
