These Are the Library Branches Where Hours May Be Cut
Document shows which libraries' hours may be affected by budget cuts.
Ahead of tonight’s Toronto Public Library Board meeting, where eight brand-new citizen board members (and five city councillors) will deliberate over the TPL staff’s suggestion that the system cut hours at branches, city-wide, in order to meet the city manager’s requested 10 per cent budget reduction, Torontoist has obtained this document, which shows exactly which locations would be affected and by how much.
The document is not part of the public board report that describes the cuts, and we have been unable, so far, to verify its authenticity with TPL.
UPDATE 5:35 PM: TPL has just confirmed the authenticity of the document.
UPDATE 11:50 AM, OCTOBER 18: We now know that this sheet was prepared by TPL staff for the board’s information. It wasn’t included in this week’s board report, apparently because it wasn’t ready in time. A TPL spokesperson tells us that the information contained in the document will be made available on the system’s website soon.
