Giller Prize Shortlist Just Announced

Book awards season is upon us, and the biggest of them in Canada is the Giller Prize. A few minutes ago, at a press conference at the Four Seasons, the shortlisted books for this year’s prize were announced. They are:
- David Bezmozgis for his novel The Free World (HarperCollins)
- Lynn Coady for her novel The Antagonist (House of Anansi)
- Patrick deWitt for his novel The Sisters Brothers (House of Anansi)
- Esi Edugyan for her novel Half-Blood Blues (Thomas Allen)
- Zsuzsi Gartner for her short story collection Better Living Through Plastic Explosives (Hamish Hamilton)
- Michael Ondaatje for his novel The Cat’s Table (McClelland & Stewart)
The awards gala is next month—November 8, to be precise—and will mark the 18th year for the Giller. For bibliophiles who can’t make it to the official ceremony, the International Festival of Authors will host a reading featuring the shortlisted authors their closing weekend, on Saturday October 29.
