Extra, Extra: Making Up Excuses, Chatting Up the Mayor, Giving Up on Rentals
- A sampling of funny tweets the #excusesnottovote hashtag generated this afternoon (including one from Torontoist copy editor and resident funny man Jeremy Woodcock, a.k.a @jwPencilAndPad). The Grid also has a roundup of excuses from Ennis Esmer and Chris Locke. All this, of course, stems from the abysmal voter turnout for yesterday’s provincial election.
- It shouldn’t really be a big deal when our mayor gives an unscripted interview, but it sort of is. You can hear Rob Ford’s Metro Morning interview from today, including the
many things he loves about Torontomany things he thinks he’s accomplished as mayor, here. - We barely got used to looking at the A.V. Club Toronto site, and they’ve gone and done a redesign. Check it out.
- Recent apartment-hunters will identify with Carley Fortune’s piece for the Grid about Toronto’s insanely competitive rental housing market. Bidding wars for apartments? Better get used to them.
- “Toronto is not a city for the world’s starry-eyed dreamers. It’s one resigned to the demands of practicality. Maybe it’s just a concentrated version of Canada itself, which is, on the whole, an unromantic, sober sort of country,” writes Michelle Dean for Toronto Life in “I ♥ N.Y. (Not T.O.).” Can’t say we agree, but the piece is worth a read.
