Extra, Extra: Toronto Gets Urbanized, Stintz Talks TTC Fares, and a Farewell to Wade Belak
Every weekday’s end, we collect just about everything you ought to care about or ought not miss.
- Civic minded TIFF-goers are abuzz about a new film, Urbanized, which looks at the state of cities around the world. A bunch of it was shot in Toronto, and there’s one more screening before the festival wraps.
- A different kind of TIFF project: National Post funnyman Steve Murray has a set of video pronunciation guides, each dedicated to shedding light on a key TIFF personality. (Example: “Bo-no. You look like a cool glass of refreshing water, Bono, and I am the thirstiest man in the world. Bo-no.”)
- Many transit users, frustrated at a set of proposed service cuts, are wondering why the TTC doesn’t raise fares and keep service at its current level. TTC Chair Karen Stintz is opposed to fare hikes at this time, and in this open letter to TTC riders she explains why.
- Sports journalist Michael Landsberg has written a frank piece about struggles with depression and his friend Wade Belak, the former Maple Leafs player who took his own life two weeks ago.
