Extra, Extra: Serenity at the Ex, and U of T Bans Sale of Bottled H2O
Every weekday's end, Extra, Extra collects just about everything you ought to care about or ought not miss.
- With all the hubbub about food and rides and aeroplanes, it’s easy to forget about simpler, quieter moments at the Ex, the kind this video by Robert McLeod captures so well.
- Councillor Josh Matlow (Ward 22, St. Paul’s) sympathizes with those who will end up sitting in gridlock this weekend, and he wants the City to invest in a system that would synchronize traffic lights in the city. Mind you, if you’re driving downtown, there’s another mode of transportation that already runs on fairly regular signals. Just sayin’.
- U of T is ceasing the sale of bottled water on its St. George campus and will do the same on its Mississauga and Scarborough locations within the next three years. Students are encouraged to carry refillable bottles, and the school will install new water fountains equipped with “bottle-filling stations.” A survey conducted in March found that 85 per cent of of students, staff, and faculty were in favour of eliminating bottled water from campus. - Union Station’s renovations are underway, and any commuter who traipses through the transit hub on a regular basis must be looking forward to the upgrade (though the end of the project, at this point, is far off). But as nice as Union Station is, or will be, there’s a global league of grand and gorgeous train stations that it’ll have to work hard to join. [via JasonParis]
