- The artists and organizers behind Flight Path (2011) are testing out their wings and zip lines in Nathan Phillips Square, where the piece is likely to attract thousands of Nuit Blanche–goers tomorrow night. If you’re still not sure what this year’s “all-night contemporary art thing” is all about, consult our guide.
- The stretch of Queen Street West between University and Spadina has lost some of its landmark retailers in recent years, including Pages Books (closed) and the Silver Snail (relocating to the Annex), so it’s encouraging to hear that Steve’s Music, which opened in Toronto in 1977, is not only staying where it is but is also expanding. The store has purchased an adjacent space at 413 Queen Street West, formerly a Guess clothing store, and hopes to open the addition in December.
- The National Post came under fire this week after it ran a transphobic and homophobic ad, but even worse than making the paper appear bigoted itself, the move also reeks of financial desperation. So says Toronto Standard contributor Christopher Michael, a former writer at the Post: “Cheaply produced ads by fringe groups (which, its supposed 52,000 strong membership notwithstanding, the ICV most certainly is) make the paper look as if it needs money so badly it’ll run anything.”
- Indigo, in partnership with Balzac’s Coffee Roasters, is selling Atwood Whole Bean Blend Coffee and donating a dollar from each bag sold to the Pelee Island Bird Observatory. According to the product description, the Atwood blend is “rich with flavour” and will “appeal to all of your senses.” We would expect no less!
