  • To voice their support for Waterfront Toronto’s plan for Toronto’s Lower Don Lands and Port Lands, #CodeBlueTO held a rally at Nathan Phillips Square this morning. Councillor Paula Fletcher (Ward 30, Toronto-Danforth) joined the group in a rousing rendition of Charlie Rich’s “Behind Closed Doors” (with some lyrical alterations). On city council’s agenda for tomorrow and Thursday is a vote on the motion passed by Executive Committee on September 6 that would change the City’s current agreement with Waterfront Toronto to give the Toronto Port Lands Company control over development in the Port Lands.   • Remember Vote Compass, from this May’s federal election? It’s back, and this time it’s helping Ontario voters decide which party’s platform best aligns with their own values and priorities. Try it out here.
  • It’s the end of an era. Toronto-based magazine Dogs in Canada will print its last issue at the end of this year; owner Apex Publishing has indicated it is no longer financially viable. Dogs in Canada has been around since 1889 and is therefore the country’s longest continually published magazine. According to Canadian Magazines, the Dogs in Canada brand may continue “in some unspecified way” online.
  • A list of the world’s most cycling-friendly cities, compiled by urban planning firm Copenhagenize, doesn’t even mention Toronto. Sad. First spot goes to Amsterdam, naturally, while Montreal, the only Canadian city on the list of 20, places eighth. The index evaluated cities based on 13 criteria, including advocacy, bicycle culture, bicycle infrastructure, perception of safety, and politics.
