Urban Planner: August 15, 2011
In today's Urban Planner: the theatre, music, and film communities are resting after SummerWorks, the ALL CAPS! festival, and the Bicycle Film Festival (and Kevin Smith's Red State is sold out), so we're going with an all-comedy lineup that includes film courtesy of the Geek Love crew, sketch from She Said What, and standup care of Laughable.

PEE-WEE: The folks at Geek Love have chosen, for their third “episode”, to laud the bow-tied Pee Wee Herman (Paul Reubens), who’s enjoying a late-career renaissance after the success of his recent Broadway show and HBO special. They’ll be screening Pee-Wee’s first HBO special and two classic episodes from his TV series Pee-Wee’s Playhouse. The Ossington (61 Ossington Avenue), 7:30 p.m., FREE.
SKETCH: She Said What, who we praised in our Fringe Festival wrap-up for their clever gangsta-ballet sketch, headline tonight at Hard Times at the Hard Luck Bar. The evening will be MCed by Fraser Young and will also feature improv from Bad Dog Theatre alumni. The Hard Luck Bar (812 Dundas Street West), doors at 8:30 p.m., $5.
STANDUP: Nick Flanagan and Steph Tolev‘s weekly comedy showcase, Laughable at Unlovable, has a really intriguing mix of guests tonight, including Ennis Esmer (CTV’s The Listener, Wipeout Canada), Evan Rosen and Andrew Bush of Picnicface, Desiree Lavoy-Dorsch of The Boom, David Dineen-Porter of L’Brondelle’s Universe, and more. Unlovable (1415-B Dundas Street West), 9 p.m., PWYC.
