Scenes from City Hall today, where Torontonians paid their respects and continued to leave tributes to Jack Layton, plus a reminder about viewings and tomorrow's state funeral

As previously reported, Jack Layton is lying in state at City Hall (100 Queen Street West) until 11 p.m. tonight and tomorrow morning from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. According to the Department of Canadian Heritage, 1,600 people have passed through City Hall to pay their respects as of 1 p.m. today.

After leaving City Hall, Layton’s casket will be transported to Roy Thomson Hall (60 Simcoe Street) for a 2 p.m. state funeral. Some are also planning to meet at Queen and University at noon tomorrow for the People’s Procession, in which mourners will walk or cycle behind the funeral cortege to the hall.

The first 600 people to line up at Roy Thomson Hall as of 8 a.m. Saturday will get wristbands for admittance; screens should be set up outside the venue to accommodate the thousands more expected (consider bringing a bell). If you can’t make it to Roy Thomson Hall but still want to watch the service in the company of other mourners, you can go to one of the three Toronto Public Library branches—North York Central, Toronto Reference, or Kennedy/Eglinton—that are broadcasting it.
