Extra, Extra: Zoo Poo, Plus Wongs and Truthers Descend on the City
Every weekday’s end, we collect just about everything you ought to care about or ought not miss.
- Toronto has (at least for now) a very large zoo, and with very large zoos come very large amounts of poo. For decades, those with an environmental bent have been trying to find uses for the poo, and a company called ZooShare recently won approval from the zoo’s board for its creative plan: turn the poo into biogas. (In other words, use the poo to generate electricity. Electric poo! Who could say no?) ZooShare is now waiting for word from the Ontario Power Authority to see if this plan will go anywhere.
- This past weekend, the Wong Association summoned Wongs of all kinds, hailing from all corners of the world, to Toronto, for the Wong Convention. Held once every three years, it brings Wongs (that is, people named Wong) together to celebrate their shared heritage. (Ward 27 Councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam, of course, was there.)
- A less charming convention: 9/11 skeptics will be congregating in Toronto in September.
