Extra, Extra: A Pilgrimage to L.A. and a Modest Climb up the Fashion Ranks

Every weekday's end, Extra, Extra collects just about everything you ought to care about or ought not miss.

Still from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

  • It may be a Toronto film at heart, but Scott Pilgrim has a wide appeal. A new cinema in Los Angeles has announced that it’s giving the film a monthly midnight residency. Scott Pilgrim will share this distinction with fellow cult favourites Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs.

  • Okay, we still have a ways to go to catch up to London, New York, Paris, and Milan, but Toronto has moved up on the Global Language Monitor’s list of world fashion capitals. Last year we were 38th and this year, 34th. This year is the organization’s eighth annual ranking of international fashion hotspots; the ranking is based on analysis of mainstream and social media and how often cities are mentioned.
  • A new school year always means change, but Ontario students heading back to class this September won’t just have new teachers and classmates–they’ll have a new diet too. If PPM 150, the province’s new School Food and Beverage Policy, has the desired effect, students will be digging into healthier eats this year. You can find more details in this first post that’s kicking off OpenFile‘s and Huffington Post Canada‘s series on school lunches.
