It’s that kind of lazy, hot Toronto morning where sleeping dogs lie, fat cats lounge, and even Newsstand takes its sweet-ass time. In your belated news today: panic—it’s hot outside, creeps still roam free at York, and even Oakville residents want public transit.

Toronto’s medical officer of health has issued a heat alert—giving local news channels plenty to freak out about all day long while the rest of us go about our business at the beach. Drink lots of water, check on old people, and stay safe, guys!
In another case of what-the-hell-is-going-on-at-York, there’s been another sexual assault on female university students at the school’s North York campus. This time, a man tracked a woman he’d previous met to her dorm room with the help of another student. Once there, he assaulted both women, and police say there could be more victims.
Build it and they will come—even in Oakville. Despite many a claim that people in the suburbs aren’t interested in using public transit, the unthinkable has come true in Oakville. Better bus service, that uses a grid along major streets instead of a radial system centred around a terminal, has helped ridership increase 13 per cent over last year. Just in May, the well-to-do western suburb saw an increase of 235,000 rides over the same month last year. Seems like a wacky idea, this “make better transit and more people will use it” thing. Any chance for something like that in Toronto? Nah!
