In today’s Urban Planner: Artist Bloc is hosting an event to raise money for its Nuit Blanche exhibit; Art Battle Sweet 16 pits artists against each other in a live painting competition; and singer Allison Brown makes a tour stop in Toronto.
FUNDRAISER: Artist Bloc is holding a fundraiser tonight to raise money for its seven-artist installation exhibit, “The Happiness Project: In the House,” scheduled for this year’s Scotiabank Nuit Blanche. The exhibit is inspired by Charles Spearin’s Juno Award–winning album and the evening will feature a silent auction, raffle, and sets by Sexy Merlin, Charles Spearin, and a variety of DJs. Gladstone Hotel (1214 Queen Street West), 7:00 p.m., $30.
ART: Fierce competition, fans, cheering, live voting! No, we’re not talking about Canadian Idol; it’s an Art Battle with 16 competitors painting live to win a cash prize and the ultimate title of Art Battle Grand Champion. Art Battle Sweet 16 takes place tonight with attendees voting on the winner and an auction of all the paintings at the end. The Great Hall (1087 Queen Street West), 7:30 p.m., $15.
MUSIC: Roots singer Allison Brown brings her Wake The Sleeping Giant Tour to Toronto tonight to promote her most recent album, Viper At The Virgin’s Feet. She’ll be accompanied by mandolin player “Uncle” Dan Henshell. The Local Pub (396 Roncesvalles Avenue), 9:30 p.m., PWYC.
