The Onion does Canada.
The Onion and the A.V. Club are coming to Toronto. The Star announced in a press release this morning that it has entered into an agreement to distribute free print editions of the publications to the city starting sometime in the fall. The Onion publishes print editions in 14 American cities, but this will be the first time it expands beyond the borders. Why us? “Toronto has long been one of the top ten cities for the Onion‘s online audience,” says Onion Inc. president Steve Hannah.
Media observers in Toronto this morning immediately started speculating about what this would mean for TorStar’s other Toronto weekly, the Grid, and Toronto weekly papers in general, with some wondering whether this will negatively affect those other papers’ circulation numbers.
