If you are reading this, congratulations, neither your face nor your computer has melted. But it’s only Tuesday, so there’s time yet. In the news: SIU closes Nobody case without charging nobody, campaign finance audits and the left, mosquitoes are the worst, and York U in trouble after an assault on campus.
Who else (besides this guy) will be facing charges in the G20 beating of Adam Nobody? Nooooooobody! That’s right folks, the SIU has closed the case, again, without laying any additional charges. Three officers were suspected of piling onto Nobody, but nobody could name them. SIU director Ian Scott added that any evidence that already points to those three officers is too weak to hold up in court, and nobody would believe it was them.
An $80 million class-action lawsuit brought by residents displaced by fire from 200 Wellesley is getting hot, hot, hot. A judge certified the suit on Monday, giving about 50 per cent of the building’s residents the go-ahead to sue the pants off the Toronto Community Housing Corporation and the property management company that operated the building at the time of the fire. The defendants weren’t too hot on the resident leading the suit because she’s so mad at them and all, but the judge wants to see how this one plays out.
Sometimes people think the kind of citizens that file campaign audit requests are just shills for the left, and that the journalists who cover those stories are also shills for the left, and that their babysitters are probably also shills for the left. Those people will think the compliance audit committee’s decision not to investigate the campaign finances of Maria Augimeri (Ward 9, York Centre) and Ana Bailão (Ward 18, Davenport) is also part of the lefty conspiracy. But really, guys, if you think about it, that’s giving far too much credit to a group that didn’t manage to win the mayoralty, or stop the removal of the new Jarvis bike lanes, or save the Fort York bridge, or get anything done that they’d like to see done, really. (Oh, and don’t mind us, the blogging arm of the underground leftist movement, while we lull you into a sense of complacency and pity for our pathetic efforts. For only then, when you think we are totally incompetent, will we have the force to win. Apparently.)
Students at York University are demanding the school do more to alert students about assaults after two women were sexually assaulted in a residence building on Friday night. The president of the York Federation of Students says the bulletins published days after the incident—one in an e-newsletter and one on a “private website for students”—are insufficient because it’s not 1999 anymore and nobody regularly checks those things.
And, not to alarm anyone, but not only do mosquitoes give you a chunk of red welts on really unfortunate parts of your bum and/or legs, but they can also kill you. Kill you dead. The city’s first West Nile–infected mosquito of the season was recently discovered. Information on the City’s official website reminds people how crappy mosquitoes really are.
