Extra, Extra: Posts on Roncey, and a Potter Rumour

- Reader Shanny Hill emailed us about the newly installed bike posts on Roncesvalles, some of which, she wrote, weren’t properly cemented into the ground and as a result were easy to lift out. As of this morning, City workers had attached signs to the posts, warning cyclists not to use them. John Kelly from the City’s Technical Services told us that crews were out early this morning to replace some of them, and the signs were there to give the posts time to set. He said the posts should all be replaced by the end of today.
- Local Potterheads, brace yourselves. With the premiere of the final Harry Potter film fast approaching, rumours about the premiere in Toronto are swirling like Dementors through the night sky. Well, okay, one rumour: though Warner Bros. won’t confirm, word has it that Harry himself, a.k.a. Daniel Radcliffe, might be flying in on his broom for the premiere screening and the Casa Loma after party.
- Despite criticism about its limited service area in the city, Bixi Toronto marked its 100,000th ride this week. Notably, Michel Philibert of Bixi told the Star that stations on the outer edges of the service area have had great traffic, which indicates a demand for the bike-sharing program outside the core.
- A dispute between the City and Dufferin Grove community organizers about how their park is staffed raises questions about exactly what it is that Toronto expects from its parks. So says Jutta Mason, who wrote this comprehensive history of the roles parks have played throughout Toronto’s history.
