  • City Hops is a project by the yet-to-open Bellwoods Brewery, who with a team of volunteers are attempting to grow hops in eight different locations downtown, including on Queen West rooftops and in residential plots. In addition to seeing how viable the crop is in an urban setting, the project’s goals include “creating local partnerships and greening urban spaces.”
  • Looking for a laugh? In response to Mayor Ford’s totally not-ridiculous suggestion at today’s council meeting that Toronto residents should call 911 if they see people “causing graffiti,” a #new911calls hashtag sprung up on Twitter. Click here to follow the fun-making.
  • Though he’s conceded that Pride should, legally speaking, get its money this year, Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti (Ward 7, York West) is still vowing to go after “any venue, including marches and parades, that have a political message slant to them,” which would likely include Pride. Meanwhile, Xtra reports that Latin American cities are trying to attract more gay tourists and their money.
