Cyclist Charged With Careless Driving After Colliding With Pedestrian
HAPPENING NOW Toronto Police laid a careless driving charge under the Highway Traffic Act against a cyclist after a collision with a pedestrian this morning. It is alleged that three pedestrians were crossing Huron Street on the south side of Dundas Street West, using a crosswalk with the appropriate signal, when the 49-year-old cyclist struck a woman, knocking her to the ground. She is now in hospital with life-threatening injuries. The police’s news release ends: “The Toronto Police Service is committed to improving pedestrian and traffic safety and would like to remind all road-users that compliance with the law and safe road behaviour will help in that regard.”
This post originally stated that the pedestrians were crossing Dundas Street West at Huron Street, when in fact, according to the TPS news release, “three pedestrians were walking eastbound on the south side of Dundas Street, crossing within the crosswalk at Huron Street with the appropriate signal.” We have changed the post to reflect this.
