In today’s Urban Planner: a Toronto Zoo fundraiser all about seafood sustainability; Authors at Harbourfront hosts a night of mystery and crime; and the Parkdale Film + Video Showcase kicks off its five-day run.

FOOD FUNDRAISER: The Toronto Zoo is hosting a topical evening: Seafood for Thought—A Sumptuous Sustainable Seafood Event. Some of Toronto’s top culinary minds will be preparing seafood tastings and wine pairings in the great outdoors. Funds raised will support the Zoo’s Conservation Fund for projects that protect wildlife and wild spaces. Toronto Zoo (361 Old Finch Avenue), 6:00 p.m.–8:30 p.m., $85–$150.
LITERATURE: It’s a night of mystery and intrigue as the Authors at Harbourfront Centre series features crime fiction authors Robert Rotenberg and SJ Watson. Rotenberg will read from his new novel, The Guilty Plea, and Watson will share excerpts from his first work, Before I Go to Sleep. The event will also include a Q&A, and the authors will participate in a discussion led by Andrew Pyper. Harbourfront Centre (235 Queens Quay West), 7:30 p.m., $10 (FREE for members, students, and youths 25 and under).
FILM: Today is the start of the 13th annual Parkdale Film + Video Showcase, a celebration of neighbourhood artists and audiences. This year’s event will highlight resistance movements in commemoration of the G20 standoff in Parkdale. Other highlights of the showcase are an outdoor film screening, various installations in Queen West storefronts, and screenings of videos produced in community workshops. On the schedule for tonight is an artist talk with REnarrative Artists that examines perspectives on migration, boundaries, and histories. Various locations in Parkdale, June 22–26, PWYC.
