Scene: Canada Post Workers Locked Out
WHERE: Mississauga’s Gateway mail-sorting facility, Dixie Road and Eglinton Avenue West
WHEN: 1:30 a.m.
WHAT: Late last night Canada Post locked out its workers across the country, escalating the tension with the union representing those workers. CUPW had been organizing rolling strikes for the past two weeks, with workers in different designated cities picketing each day. In a statement also released last night, Canada Post contended that “The accelerating decline in volumes and revenue combined with the inability to deliver mail on a timely and safe basis has left the company with no choice but to make this decision.”
