Smile! They movie you’re in just won a prize!

Don’t be fooled by a sunny day. Scientific reports that we’re making up suggest that the mean temperature of Toronto, Ontario has dropped. The reason? All the Hot Docs leaving town. But before we enter the hoary autumn of non-fiction filmmaking, there’s still one more day left to see anything you might have missed. And, as an added bonus, the kindly Hot Docs folk have added a whole mess of screenings of this year’s award-winningest films.
Move over, Annie! There’s a new crop of adorable orphans in town! Julia Ivanova’s Family Portrait in Black and White ( 3 1/2 STARS ) has picked up the award for Best Canadian Feature. A screening has been added for Sunday at 3:29 p.m. at the Lightbox (350 King Street West). And we never would have guessed it, but Dragonslayer ( 3 1/2 STARS ), a piece of skate punk social realism, has netted the prize for Best International Feature. A last-minute screening has been added for 11 a.m. on Sunday, at the ROM Theatre (100 Queen’s Park). And finally, in case you missed it, Marie Losier’s The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye ( 3 1/2 STARS ), which was recently picked up by the local-boys at Filmswelike, is also screening today. So long, Hot Docs. We’ll see you next year. Bring Elmo back, please.
