Every weekday’s end, Extra, Extra collects just about everything you ought to care about or ought not miss.

  • The theme of the Spring 2011 issue of Dandyhorse Magazine, a publication devoted to cycling in Toronto, is: “Bikes on Bloor are good for business!” The issue features a story about a ride across Bloor-Danforth from Kipling to Victoria Park, as well as a cycling-fashion photo spread, which includes the shot above. The magazine is having a launch party on May 30; get all the details here.
  • Our recently re-elected and majority-ed PM announced his cabinet today, and there are a number of GTA MPs who now have to answer to “minister.” New MP Joe Oliver (Eglinton-Lawrence) was handed the Natural Resources portfolio, Bal Gosal (Bramalea-Gore-Malton) is minister of state for sport, and former Toronto police chief Julian Fantino (Vaughan) becomes the associate minister of national defence.
  • For talented Scarborough residents who aren’t easily embarrassed, opportunity has come a-knocking. This year’s Taste of Lawrence International Food and Cultural Festival will feature the inaugural S Factor talent search. Auditions begin May 28 for singers and dancers, ages 13 to 29, as individuals or in groups of two to six competitors. Visit the festival’s site for more details and to register for an audition.
  • Finally, a word of warning for this coming long weekend: if your plans involve driving, plan carefully. The Gardiner will be closed for spring maintenance in both directions from 2 a.m. on Saturday to 8 a.m. on Monday, between Carlaw Avenue and the Humber River. Alternate routes like Lake Shore Boulevard and the Queensway could work, but the City suggests Riding the Rocket this May Two-Four.
