Believe it or not, music videos still exist. Sound Tracks trolls the internet to find the best and the worst of local artists’ new singles and the good, bad, or otherwise noteworthy visuals that accompany them.
The new Meligrove Band video is the latest piece of work from funny guy directors the Cobourg Boys, who recently made a clever video for the defunct Bicycles, starring actors (one of whom was a Meligrove!) as the Bicycles. Though really, the stars of that video were the captions that narrated the video-making process.
The video for “Really Want It” has captions too, but this isn’t just a repeat of a successful formula—the Cobourg Boys have gone above and beyond to show the Meligrove Band’s biggest
Swimfan, Melidude_85, in his natural habitat. The premise is that Melidude receives the band’s newest album, Shimmering Lights in the mail and makes a webcam video of himself opening it. As if that wasn’t creepy enough, we’re taken on a tour of his house, a.k.a. his Meligrove shrine, full of excessive and obscure Meligrove Band merchandise. The painstaking creation of all those props must be recognized, and commended. Unless of course there really is some weird CafePress store with all of this stuff, in which case, we hope the video budget was big enough to cover it.
Melidude_85 just seems so sweet, though, so even when the band gets delivered to his house, we know they’re in good hands. Good, creepy, obsessive hands.
