Scene: Polish Plane Crash, One Year Later
WHERE: Roncesvalles, between St. Casimir’s Roman Catholic Church and King Street
WHEN: 12:30–1 p.m. Sunday
WHAT: Toronto’s Polish community gathered today to mark the one year anniversary of the devastating plane crash that killed President Lech Kaczynski and many legislative and military leaders. The delegation in the plane had been attempting to land at Smolensk, for a memorial to mark the Katyn massacre—a mass killing of Polish soldiers by the Russian secret service in 1940.
After a special Sunday Mass at St. Casimir’s Roman Catholic Church this morning, a procession marched to the Katyn Memorial at King and Roncesvalles for additional ceremonies commemorating both those losses.
