Extra, Extra: A Sign of the Times and an Unhappy Grimes
Every weekday’s end, Extra, Extra collects just about everything you ought to care about or ought not miss.
A graffiti artist reponds to Rob Ford’s crackdown on graffiti.
- A Reddit user, who asked to remain anonymous, snapped the above shot of a new message added to the City of Toronto’s sign along the Gardiner. Agree with it or not, we’re going to say this isn’t giving visitors the best first impression of the city.
- Over at Eye, Edward Keenan evaluates Rob Ford’s first 107 days in office. It’s much more nuanced than the message from the above graffiti artist, but the sentiment is similar.
- Hoping to lessen the impact of single-use water bottles, a group called Youth4Water have come up with a clever idea to help Torontonians find spots to fill up around the city. The Blue W program asks businesses to display a small blue sticker in their windows, inviting passersby to come in for some free H2O. Those businesses also appear on a map that can be accessed through a mobile app.
- According to this somewhat alarming St. Patrick’s Day story posted on Xtra, Councillor Mark Grimes (Ward 6, Etobicoke-Lakeshore) doesn’t appreciate people tweeting about his ability to speak while (allegedly) intoxicated. Noted.
- He’s been inescapably present in the media for a while now, but Toronto’s going to get up close and personal with Charlie Sheen, a.k.a. Catchphrase Charlie, in April. He’s bringing his show, Charlie Sheen Live: My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat Is Not an Option, to Massey Hall on April 14. Tickets go on sale tomorrow.
- And lastly, for your weekend reading consideration: Issue 05 of Toronto-based Aggregation Magazine, which includes links collected on such topics as the perfect cup of tea, light painting, and despots who dye their hair.
